Fallout New Vegas mod reinvigorates guns with a massive overhaul

by editor@pcgamesn.com

If there's one thing in Fallout New Vegas that hasn't aged well, it's the animation. The writing is timeless, the worldbuilding is engrossing, and the characters are memorable. Time has come for the engine that first built Fallout 3, though, but the hourglass is always being refilled by dedicated modders. This is now true of gun animations, as they've been given a much-welcome overhaul and look better than ever. Read the rest of the story... Todd Howard doesn't want to step on your Fallout New Vegas playthrough

by editor@pcgamesn.com

As a part of the series canon, Amazon's Fallout TV show raises a lot of questions. I'm sure many of these will be answered in the now-greenlit Season 2, but until then there's a Mojave-shaped cloud over my head that I just can't shake. The show has a lot of implications for Fallout New Vegas, and while I was initially apprehensive about what Amazon would do with it, Bethesda's Todd Howard at least seems to be level-headed. "We don't want to wait that long either" - As we all crave fresh Fallout, Todd Howard says Bethesda's looking to find ways to up its output

by

Have you been left a bit bummed out that, after having your appetite for the series renewed by Amazon's Fallout TV show, the most recent Fallout games on offer are Fallout 4 and Fallout 76, both of which are getting fairly long in the tooth, even if they are still getting fresh updates? Well, here's what could be a bit of good news - Todd Howard says Bethesda's looking into upping its output, if it can do so in a manner it's a fan of. Yup, while we have had Fallout 4's rather, er, troubled next-gen update to dig into, and Appalachia to rediscover, the show's highlighted the need for more regular entries. Especially given that The Elder Scrolls 6 is next up on the docket and still seems years away at this point. Speaking to Kinda Funny Games for an interview that also saw him confirm when Starfield's first expansion will be dropping, Todd Howard also touched on where the studio's at in terms of making new things. I love everything about Fallout, except the games

A gunshot echoes in the night, reverberating off of worn cliff faces, ringing for miles. "The game was rigged from the start" are (probably) the last words you hear before the world goes black. Death, it seems, has caught up with you. And yet, a few moments later, you awaken in a battered old house, miraculously nursed back to health, vengeful and ready to take on the world. The beginning of Fallout New Vegas never gets old. Read the rest of the story... However popular you think the Fallout games are right now, you’re wrong – the numbers are astonishing

by

Hello there. You might be aware that, following the arrival of Amazon's Fallout TV show lots of people have been, well, playing Fallout games. It's a trend that's been pushing modding sites into new territory when it comes to serving folks ways to spice up their favorite Fallout, and now Bethesda's casually revealed some of the actual player numbers involved. It's important to note that - while hype for the second season of Amazon's Fallout is already building - Fallout 4's next-gen update hasn't even dropped quite yet. So, there's probably a chance the numbers I'm about to chuck at your face have a chance to climb at least a little bit further soon. In a couple of tweets form the offical Fallout account, Bethesda revealed that "almost five million" players were recorded in total across all of the titles in the Fallout series during a single day recently. To put that in context, that's almost a million more people than the entire estimated population of Croatia as of 2022 - which was ...

Amid Fallout TV show fever, Nexus Mods says it's been dishing out as much data as downloading Skyrim "twice per second" would involve

by

While Fallout 4's next-gen update hasn't even dropped yet, Amazon's Fallout TV show has already been driving droves of players back to the series. Naturally, a lot these returning wastelanders have been grabbing mods to spice up their experiences - about two Skyrim's per second worth, actually. Yup, as they fill the void of not having a second season to immediately binge - though one is very much on the way - people have been busy downloading plenty of overhauls, weapons, and even Walton Goggins billboards. As outlined in a new post by community manager Demorphic, modding site Nexus Mods has basically been struggling to keep up with that demand for the past little bit. Read more

The Best Fallout games: Every Fallout game ranked

Fallout. It's a series of games about what happens when someone pushes that big red button to drop the nukes, damning an alternate timeline version of humanity to spend an eternity doing fun little quests among the rubble. Within that, there's scope for some of the best RPG fun you can get, no matter what kind of fun it is that you're looking for in an RPG. We've all thought about what'd happen if the bombs were to actually fall, and since 1997, first Interplay and Black Isle, now Bethesda - with some help from Obsidian and now Amazon, have offered us a chance to see just how we might fare if forced to roam the radioactive streets of post-apocalyptic America. The answer in reality is that we'd all probably die very quickly, but hey, that's what video games are for - to give us a chance to dream. But, which of the Fallouts is the best? It's a loaded question for sure, an one you'll end up answering differently depending on what you want out of a Fallout game. However, because the terrif...

Wahey, Amazon's Fallout TV show season two is now officially confirmed, just in case there was any doubt

by

You there! Stop playing through through Fallout 4 again! Amazon's Fallout TV show is now officially confirmed to be getting a second season, as pretty much all of us had hoped following the stellar reaction to its debut series. Yup, after increasing everyone's appreciation for Walton Goggins and Ella Purnell's ability to say 'okey dokey' in about fifteen different tones, as well as providing loads of fun little references and easter eggs to dissect, the show's set to continue. To be fair - spoilers - you probably guessed that it would likely be doing so when you saw how it ended. A tweet from the show's official account first revealed this good news, slap bang in the middle on the night UK time. "Wouldn't want to keep you on the edge of your seat, now, would we?", the slightly sarky post read, "See you back in the Wasteland for SEASON 2." Read more

Bethesda's very own Mr Handy (director and executive producer) Todd Howard has addressed the controversy surrounding the Fallout TV show's treatment of Fallout backstory, reaffirming the canonicity of Obsidian's Fallout: New Vegas and promising that Bethesda and Amazon are being "careful" to maintain consistency between the games and the TV series. Fallout New Vegas director shares some notes from its development, finally revealing, uh, what the team once had for lunch

by

I don't know about you, but there was only one way I could celebrate arrival of Amazon's Fallout TV show just before the series dropped. I replayed Fallout New Vegas. If you did the same, the good news is that the game's director Josh Sawyer, has just shared a fresh peek at some of his development notes for the game. Yup, get ready to pause a Twitter video more times that anyone ever should in order to try and see who made Mr House's moustache look quite so beautiful in his big screen render. Sadly that detail doesn't look to be in there, but there are a few other interesting nuggets. In a thread that Sawyer would later reveal to be the result of him looking for his copy of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, he shared quick flicks through three notebooks he used during New Vegas' development. The dates attatched to the contents suggest that these notes start around 2009, when the team was working on building the base game's world and quests, and run all the way up until 2010, when t...

Fallout Season 2 presents a major dilemma for New Vegas

by editor@pcgamesn.com

The Fallout TV show once again proves that with the right creative team, videogames can be adapted to almost anything. It's not about breaking some huge, mythical, videogame movie curse. More simply, shows like The Last of Us, and, in fact, the Sonic films, prove that all you need is a good understanding of the source material and the ability to process that into a watchable story. Amazon's Fallout show does this. It has strong characters and uses them to flesh out the retro-futurist post-apocalypse in surprising ways. That said, the final shot of the show's first season raises one big question, and I'm apprehensively waiting to see how it's handled. Read the rest of the story... Everybody is playing Fallout 4 and New Vegas, and it’s all thanks to Amazon’s Fallout

by

Turns out that the Fallout show has gotten everyone in the mood to play the games, as pretty much every title in the series has seen their player count skyrocket. Last week, Prime Video finally released its live-action adaptation of Fallout, which was quickly met with positive reviews all around. So, it should come as no surprise that players would get a hankering for the games too, which is exactly what happened. In fact, at least according to SteamDB stats, players returned to all of the Fallout games in droves, though some admittedly more than others. Fallout 4 saw the most players in game over the weekend, hitting a player count peak of 83,491 on Sunday - bear in mind a week earlier the game's player count peak was at around 24,000, so it's more than tripled its player count following the release of the show last week. It's Fallout 76 that took home a new record this weekend, though, a game you should absolutely hop onto now you've finished the show. The multiplayer take on the cla...

Fallout New Vegas mod takes aim at a lore-friendly map expansion

by editor@pcgamesn.com

If you're here, you can't get enough of Fallout New Vegas and its irradiated Mojave. There's so much to love about Obsidian's world from Novac to Nipton, and with The Strip offering up a shining beacon to work towards, but what about across the Colorado River where Caesar's Legion resides? We don't get much, especially to the south of the map, and this in-progress, DLC-sized content mod wants to change that. Read the rest of the story...
