Path of Exile dev "very sorry" as it rolls back account migration temporarily

by editor@pcgamesn.com

Path of Exile 2 developer Grinding Gear Games apologizes to players after its planned Path of Exile account migration caused disconnects and crashes. The change is being made to prepare for the launch of the much-anticipated sequel to one of the best ARPGs around, and allows the combination of multiple accounts across the free PC game and its console versions. Unfortunately, its initial rollout to the original PoE on Thursday November 14 quickly ran into issues, so it has been pushed back until after the weekend. Read the rest of the story... Incident Report for Today's Deploy

by Natalia_GGG

Today at 9am NZT we took down the realm for the deployment of the new account system. This migration was expected to take around 4 hours. The first thing that went wrong was that the migration took longer to run than it did on our test hardware. This extended the downtime for an extra hour past the point that we had budgeted for. After the realm was brought back up around 2PM NZT, we found that many players were getting disconnected frequently. This was caused by crashes in one of the backend master servers that caused online account session information to be lost. We spent around 15 minutes trying to investigate the causes of these crashes but were unable to immediately come up with any solutions so we decided to roll back the patch. Unfortunately in this case, what would normally take a very short amount of time to roll back took a very long time due to the extensive database migrations that had occurred during deployment. The databases are very large and restoring the backup took qu...

Changes to Path of Exile's Account System

by CommunityTeam_GGG

In order to support Path of Exile 1 and 2 sharing microtransactions as well as Cross Play between all supported platforms in Path of Exile 2, we have had to make some changes to our account system. Here are the changes you can expect. Discriminators One of the annoying problems that we previously had was that creating new accounts with the name you wanted was very difficult. With so many accounts, new players often had to try 10 or more times to get a name that wasn't taken. Since we are merging all platforms accounts into a single account system, we knew that we had to deal with name conflicts anyway, so we have decided to add a "discriminator" number to the end of each account name. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/5193306/b188c692a3235cdcfdad72d6393720fb25afad24.png Sub-accounts The next big change we are making is sub-accounts. There will be many players who have previously created an account on a console platform as well as on PC. These players can now merge these accounts together so that they...

The next Path of Exile league is delayed to steer clear of PoE 2

by editor@pcgamesn.com

With Path of Exile 2 arriving a little later than previously planned, developer Grinding Gear Games has reworked the plans for its predecessor. The first Path of Exile isn't being retired with the PoE 2 launch and will instead continue running alongside the new game. However, to give its sequel room to breathe, GGG is extending the free ARPG's current league into 2025. If you need something to tide you over for now, however, a special new event is about to kick off that lets you snag a free cosmetic item. Read the rest of the story... Path of Exile 3.26 Expansion Timeline

by CommunityTeam_GGG

Now that we've announced a new date of Early Access for Path of Exile 2, we would like to give an update on the timeline for our next Path of Exile 1 expansion. 3.26 Expansion Timeline Path of Exile 1 has received two new expansions this year with the ongoing Settlers of Kalguur being one of the most successful leagues ever. Despite the delay, launching Path of Exile 2 in Early Access this year is a very important milestone for us and we've been working very hard to make it happen. After many days of internal discussions, we made the decision to not launch the 3.26 expansion for Path of Exile 1 this year. We’re looking to announce this new league in early 2025 (think late January) however we have to remain flexible with this window as releasing an entirely new project can come with challenges that we cannot predict. This means that the Settlers league will be extended to early 2025. Join the Settlers of Kalguur event on November 7th PST To brighten up the wait, on November 7th PST we'r...

'This really hurts': Path of Exile 2 early access has been delayed by three weeks

by Shaun Prescott

Path of Exile 2 will launch into early access three weeks later than planned due to last-minute "server side infrastructure work". More specifically, it's to do with making sure microtransactions work seamlessly across both Path of Exile and the forthcoming sequel, a long-promised feature that will, according to game director Jonathan Rogers, require a lot more load testing before it can go live... Path of Exile 2 Delayed Three Weeks to December 6th PST

by Natalia_GGG

Unfortunately we have some bad news. We have to delay Early Access for 3 weeks. The new date is the 6th of December. We're really sorry about this one. People plan time off and things like that around our launches, but we just had to do it. So what happened? It turns out that it isn't the game itself that we are behind on, it's a bunch of server side infrastructure work that has taken us a lot longer than we expected. One of the key promises we made is that all your microtransactions will work across both Path of Exile 1 and 2. In order to do that, we have to integrate the account systems for not only Path of Exile 1 and 2, but also for the console realms as well. We have to get everything perfect so that nobody loses anything they paid for, and nobody has their account broken. So with that in mind, we have decided to delay. We are going to be having a livestream talking all about the content you can expect in Path of Exile 2's Early Access in about 4 weeks. You can think of it like th...
