Are we finally going to see Hollow Knight: Silksong at tomorrow’s Indie World Nintendo Direct?

by

A Nintendo Indie World has been set for tomorrow, so of course it begs the question, as it does everytime a games company hosts a presentation: will Silksong be there? The next Nintendo Indie World is taking place tomorrow, 3pm BST/ 10am ET, as announced by the game developer earlier today, and is promising about 20 minutes of "announcements and updates on indie games headed to Nintendo Switch in 2024." That's on the shorter end, even for an Indie World presentation, so don't expect news on absolutely every indie game under the sun. Nintendo normally has some surprises up its sleeves, including for Indie World, but obviously the surprise that everyone is hoping for is a Hollow Knight: Silksong release date. Now, I know what you're thinking: don't people spam "Silksong when?" in the chat of every livestream like this? What makes this one any different? Well, just earlier this week it was spotted that Silksong received a rating by the Australian ratings board. It received one back in Feb...

Best Metroidvania games on PC in 2024

by editor@pcgamesn.com

What are the best Metroidvania games on PC? With mechanics that have spread to all genres, few things beat a good, traditional, and sprawling Metroidvania. Mostly 2D with some straightforward combat, tricky platforming, light RPG mechanics, and abilities to find that help you explore castles, alien-infested planets, dungeons, caves, whimsical forests, and so on. It's quite difficult to put down a Metroidvania until you've beaten every boss and revealed every nook on the map. Exploration is key here, so if you're looking for 2D action platformers without much in the way of it, you won't find them here. Nintendo's Super Metroid and Konami's Castlevania: Symphony of the Night popularized the Metroidvania genre, but they aren't available on PC. For Nintendo, it's understandable - they're notorious for keeping their franchises on their systems - but for some reason, Konami hasn't brought the best Metroidvania game to PC yet. While we wait for them to get around to giving us a hopefully rema...

Hollow Knight players release fan-made DLC, helping us endure the wait for literally any Silksong info

by

While many await a morsel of news regarding Hollow Knight: Silksong since its delay during May, some keen Hollow Knight players have worked tirelessly to create an impressive, fan-made DLC known as Pale Court for the game (thanks, GamesRadar). So, if you’re in need of a way to satiate that Hollow Knight itch, the Pale Court DLC should have you covered for the time being. Released on July 1 following a launch trailer, the fan-made DLC can be downloaded via Github at your own discretion, and you’ll need the Scarab+ mod manager to get it working. The Pale Court mod will allow players to “challenge Hallownest’s mightiest champions in combat”, with boss fights and lore massively expanded. There’s also new charms, secrets, and dialogue to look forward to; all lovingly made by fans in the style of Hollow Knight’s developer, Team Cherry. If you’re interested in the creators behind Pale Court, you can view a full list of mod credits here; it’s clearly been a valiant, collaborative e...

Hollow Knight's newest mod feels like it should be paid DLC

by Harvey Randall

It's been a while since I played Hollow Knight, an awesome 2017 metroidvania from the minds at Team Cherry. It's filled with bugs (in a good way), mysterious halls, overgrown gardens, and gorgeous artwork that somehow makes Hallownest's desolate wastes feel cosy and inviting. I was delighted to discover—with the help of Gamesradar—that the fanmade expansion the Pale Court was finally released at the start of the month... Read more.

This Hollow Knight mod is Silksong's perfect prequel

by editor@pcgamesn.com

Hollow Knight is one of those indie game gems that took the gaming community by storm, gathering players of all varieties as fans. The artistic Metroidvania vibes mixed in with the adorable, nameless insectoid warrior made for an unforgettable experience. As you explore Hallownest, a fallen kingdom plagued by some supernatural disease, it becomes difficult not to want more of Hollow Knight's action-adventure thrill. While many of us have been waiting (im)patiently for more word on Silksong, the game's sequel, a mod known as Pale Court has been underway. Read the rest of the story... The best Halloween 2022 treat? I think it might be Xbox Game Pass

by

Halloween is right around the corner, and I don’t know about any of you, but it’s definitely one of my favourite holidays of the year. Mainly because, unlike Christmas (in which I rarely get to relax, let alone boot up a game), it’s the perfect excuse for me to kick back and chill out with my favourite genre of game, and that’s horror. Admittedly, I’ve jumped on the Halloween bandwagon rather late this year. I’ve failed to decorate my flat with cardboard bats and fake cobwebs, and I’m still yet to go and acquire candy for any trick-or-treaters. That said, I dove into Xbox Game Pass recently to line up some games for the Halloween weekend; it appears that while the children knocking on my front door may not get any treats, I certainly have already got one with the gems that are on Game Pass right now. Hollow Knight Silksong is coming... to PS4 and PS5

by

That's right folks, the latest bit of Hollow Knight: Silksong news is here, confirming that it is definitely, absolutely, 100% coming to PS4 and PS5. PlayStation itself confirmed the news earlier this week on its official Twitter account (September 16), writing "Sharpen your needles – confirming Hollow Knight: Silksong is coming to PS5 and PS4." Of course, this being Silksong news, that's about as far as the update stretches, but it is good to know that the game will be coming to a range of platforms at the very least. Earlier this year at the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase, we got another snippet of Silksong gameplay, confirming that the game would also be coming to Xbox consoles, though didn't specify which. It was also announced that the game would be on Game Pass day one though, a big win for subscribers to the service. But there's been no mention of whether it will be available on any of the PlayStation Plus expanded tiers. Read more

Hollow Knight is getting cross-platform Steam Cloud Saves to help Steam Deck

by

Hollow Knight developer Team Cherry has announced that an update due to go live on Monday, August 15th will bring a much needed change to the saving system. Cross-platform Cloud Saves

by Team Cherry

Soon we'll be making some changes in order to support cross-platform cloud saves between Windows, MacOS, and Linux (including the Steam Deck)! This is planned to occur on Monday, 15th of August at 05:00 (UTC). UPDATE: These changes have been applied. Please take care to backup your save files from the locations below before attempting to sync with Steam Cloud. In order for your save files to sync properly you may need to open them up in-game once and then save and quit, so Steam triggers the upload. These changes will replace the MacOS and Linux cloud save locations, and all platforms will use the existing Windows save location. This will have a few side effects: MacOS and Linux users will need to play the game once for Steam to upload their existing local save files to cloud storage Windows users should not need to do anything, except: Cross-platform users who manually migrated their save files between platforms may have conflicting files. When steam prompts you to keep or overwrite y...

Hollow Knight broke its all-time player record and no-one knows why

by editor@pcgamesn.com

This month popular Metroidvania-meets-Dark Souls title Hollow Knight broke its all-time concurrent player count on Steam, which is good news - but it's a little inexplicable why it has happened now, four years after the game's release. Could it be rising excitement over the still-upcoming Hollow Knight: Silksong? Hollow Knight released in February 2017 on PC before appearing on consoles, and on PC alone it quickly grew in popularity. Developer Team Cherry revealed that Hollow Knight had sold over one million copies on PC alone, and that was all the way back in 2018. A lot of people have played it in the last few years, in other words. On August 5, Hollow Knight broke its all-time peak concurrent player count according to SteamDB, which now stands at 12,891. Player counts have been steadily rising since June, it seems, with the previous peak of 11,893 players appearing on June 24. Prior to June, the highest player count fell on April 2020 at 11,508 - which at least corresponded with Hol...
