Ghost in the Shell director Mamoru Oshii has played 10,000 hours of Fallout 4 while refusing to do the main quest, build settlements, or travel with anyone but Dogmeat: 'I'd much rather be beaten to death by Deathclaws'

by Ted Litchfield

s reported by IGN Japan, prolific Japanese director Mamoru Oshii loves Fallout 4—like, more than anyone I've met or heard of in my entire life. In a new video celebrating the 30th anniversary of Ghost in the Shell, Oshii revealed that he has played 2,000 hours on PlayStation, followed by another 8,000 on Steam... Read more.

Fallout 4 feels like a brand new game now that it's forcing me to take naps, drink plenty of water, and not save scum

by Ted Litchfield

Between the new season of the Fallout show, New Vegas' 15th birthday, Fallout 4's 10th anniversary, and our interview series celebrating all of the above (complete with print cover story!), I've been in a bit of a Fallout mood. I smashed through Fallout 3 in a week and change over Christmas, I'm getting asymptotically close to the end of a New Vegas run I started in November, and I've put a humiliating number of hours (28.2, according to Steam) into Fallout 4 in just the past five days... Nexus Mods' latest modathon isn't a typical modathon, it's a first go at the same for multi-mod collections

by

With their latest Fallout modathon having wrapped up at the close of last year, mod-hosting site Nexus Mods have decided to try something new with their latest event designed to supercharge mod creation around a specific game or theme. Rather than asking folks to submit fresh individual mods like usual, the modathon that's about to kick off is all about putting together chunky multi-mod lists which can overhaul a game in one fell swoop. These user-assembled modlists, dubbed Collections, are a feature Nexus Mods have been pushing for a number of years now, so it's not surprising they're now serving as the subject of a modathon for the first time. Ex Bethesda dev would like to see Fallout 5 in New Orleans, and fewer airships in the Amazon show

by editor@pcgamesn.com

There's something electric about New Orleans. I first fell in love with the city when I was watching The Vampire Diaries' spinoff show The Originals (I can hear the judgement from here). In many ways, it feels like its own world, oozing style to the sound of smooth jazz; a place where anything is possible. We've seen that mysticism explored in shows like American Horror Story: Coven and videogames like the recent South of Midnight. Ex-Bethesda artist Nathan Purkeypile, who worked on Fallout 3 and 4 before becoming lead artist on 76, feels that same allure and wants to see the RPG series head to the Deep South. I thought I was crazy for thinking Fallout 4 feels like a perfectly crisp fall day, but that's exactly what Bethesda was aiming for after a 'field trip' to a national park: 'I was like, this is what our world needs to look like'

by Ted Litchfield

Fallout 4 is a much more cheerful game than its immediate numbered predecessor. In contrast with the grime, slick gore, and green tint of the Capital Wasteland, the Commonwealth is bright and vibrant—it's the sort of place where you wouldn't mind putting down roots and founding a settlement or ten... Fallout 4's lead designer reckons it is the 'most replayable' game in the series thanks to its interweaving quests, which I'm sure will go down swimmingly with New Vegas sickos

by Rick Lane

I've thought about Fallout 4 in a lot of different ways since first playing it ten years ago. On its release, I thought it was the weakest Fallout game, lacking the roleplaying depth of its forebears. But a recent replay helped me see its strengths as a survivalist shooter. There's a lot to love about its depiction of post-nuclear Boston if you're willing to overlook the fact that you solve most problems with a gun... Read more.

Fallout 4 December Patch - now available

by Jesscapade

With our December patch we’re addressing the following fixes listed below. Your feedback and reports have been greatly appreciated and have helped us sort through a few key pain points for players. It was a goal of ours to launch storage expansion on console this year, knowing it's been one of the top requests from players. While the team has made progress, we need a little more time to roll this out for console players and will need to wait until the new year.  Thank you for your continued feedback with our support and community team. Please keep an eye on our channels for updates on future patches and new creation content coming in the new year.  Save/Load and Content Handling Fixed issues with the missing Creations Bundle add-on for SteamGame now recognizes Creation Club content upon loading a save file from an older build. Correct warning dialogue is shown when Creations are disabled but not deleted.   General UI/UX Improvements Improved visibility and interaction in the Category L...

Fallout 4 was initially set in New York because it's 'something grand and American' and Nick Valentine capped-off the very first design document: 'I think the photo was of Humphrey Bogart'

by Rich Stanton

PC Gamer's latest issue is a Fallout bonanza, going over the entire history of one of the greatest gaming series with many of the key figures behind it. Among the topics covered are why Todd Howard wouldn't let the usual "videogame directors" touch the series, the disquiet of New Vegas' lead writer about the lack of credit and residuals in the Amazon TV show, the shaky launch of Fallout 76, and the early concept for Fallout 4 and its most-beloved character... Another Fallout 4 update fixes performance issues while leaving modders angry, but it doesn't have to be this way

by Andrea Shearon

Bethesda is celebrating a decade of Fallout 4 this month, and, as is Toddly tradition, has released yet another version of the Sole Survivor's wasteland journey. The Fallout 4: Anniversary Edition launched on November 10 as an all-encompassing collection of DLC and add-ons, but a related update to Fallout 4's Creation Club menu rolled out for everyone who owns the game and caused issues with certain existing mods... Fallout 4 - November Patch Now Available

by Jesscapade

Thank you for your continued communication with us on your current Fallout 4 experience. The team is focused on DLC installation issues, occasional crashing, and general user experience in Patch 1, and of course, continued preparation for mod storage expansion for consoles. While we initially hoped to release the storage expansion in our November patch, we will need a little extra time to roll out this heavily requested feature from the community.  We'll share more details on the December Patch 2 in the coming weeks. In the meantime, to help prepare for mod storage expansion, console players may want to ensure their mod load order is protected. Please see the following steps to help preserve your mod load orders as a console player.  We’re also excited to share "The Varmint Rifle", the first of several free Fallout 4 Creations coming to players, will be available next week! Fall down a manhole, discover a unique rifle, solve an elaborate set of puzzles, but in true wasteland fashion, y...

Fallout 4's anniversary update "didn’t quite land with the impact many hoped for", so Nexus Mods have assembled their own

by

It's fair to say Fallout 4's anniversary update's earned some stick due to effect it had on PC mods, just like the RPG's next-gen update did before it. Lots of works needed updating, and while that happened pretty quickly in a number of cases, there was still disruption for some additions that generally feel a lot more necessary over on console. Enter modding platform Nexus Mods, who've decided to follow-up the update by putting together their own "anniversary collection" of Fallout 4 mods from the works they host, with hopes it'll serve as a free alternative aimed at celebrating ten years of the RPG being modded. Fallout 4 - November 17th Hotfix

by Jesscapade

Today’s Fallout 4 hotfix addresses the following: Resolved an issue preventing users from enabling Creations that rely on DLC. Improved stability in the Creation menu, particularly on PS4/XB1. Identified an issue causing DLC to become uninstalled on PlayStation. For players still experiencing this issue, we recommend the following: Please enable any of your Creations after your DLC is completely installed.  We’re continuing to collect everyone’s feedback and encountered issues, so if you’ve submitted a ticket with our support team or provided details to our team in Discord, thank you. It’s been extremely helpful.  For next steps, the team is focused on additional fixes in our first November Patch. We’ll share those details as soon as we can.

Bethesda is 'actively investigating' the Fallout 4 problems that Bethesda caused with its latest Fallout 4 update
