Here are some of the best Steam games most own but too few have played

by editor@pcgamesn.com

There are some games it feels like literally everyone has played - or at least heard of. Half-Life. Portal. Left 4 Dead. The list goes on, and on, and on. But despite their popularity and status as PC gaming icons, new data from SteamIDFinder shows that the videogames we call classics too often sit collecting dust in our Steam libraries and, quite honestly, I feel slightly called out right now. Steam Families is out of beta, letting you share games with up to five others

by

Steam’s family sharing feature Steam Families is now available to everyone on the platform, letting up to six total people share games from a single library, with each individual having access to their own saved games, achievements, and workshop files. This means that, yes, when you all sit down together in the evening, you can enjoy a hearty family meal in the knowledge that between you, you technically own six copies of the Cities Skylines Big Butt Skinner Balloon. Each person on the account will have one of two roles: adult or child. Adults can manage parental controls, set hourly or daily playtime limits, approve purchase requests, and control store access. Valve appear very proud of making it easier for parents to spend money, streamlining the “time-consuming” task of buying games for their kids. Read more

Good news, Steam's just introduced a better way to enjoy dodgy smut and 6/10s with your grandparents

by

Playing video games with your family is definitely never a recipe for arguments, and Steam’s just introduced an improved way to definitely not get into such arguments. Steam Families, now available in beta, will let you do a bunch of stuff with your loved ones, including play very mid games at the same time. If you’ve previously been using features like family sharing and family view, a number of elements of this latest addition to Steam won’t be new to you, but they’ve now been smushed together alongside some other stuff, in order to make managing your family a bit less of a hassle. Well, it’ll still be a hassle when your 10 year old inevitably wants to buy GTA 6, but at least now you should be able to play something relaxing while they’re on with it, to help you come up with PG explanations for all the bits they don’t understand. Portal Revolution is so good it makes me miss the old Valve

by editor@pcgamesn.com

Portal fans were eating well for a while. The first game, which introduced portals as a puzzle-solving concept, launched in 2007 to much acclaim and was followed three years later by the equally beloved Portal 2. This expansive sequel added a lengthy co-op mode, new mechanics, and an intriguing continuation of the Aperture Science mystery. Aside from the very brief Peer Review co-op DLC, the excellent Bridge Constructor Portal, and appearances in the likes of Aperture Desk Job for the Steam Deck, there has been little else Portal-wise for us to feast on. Valve shuts down a cool looking N64 Portal demake, but its dev doesn't want you to be mad at anyone

by

Portal 64, a very cool-looking Nintendo 64-inspired Portal demake, was cancelled earlier this week because of Valve, but its dev doesn't want you to be mad at anyone. We all love a good demake, and Portal 64 was looking like it was set to be just that - a demake of the classic puzzle game rendered in a style like that you'd see on the N64. Unfortunately, as announced on the project creator James Lambert's Patreon (via Time Extension), Valve actually reached out about the project, asking for it to be shut down. "Because the project depends on Nintendo’s proprietary libraries, they have asked me to take the project down," Lambert explained - Nintendo is famously litigious after all, so it's a move that makes sense from Valve, even if it's an unfortunate one. Now, in a new YouTube video from Lambert, the dev added a bit more context to the situation (thanks, PCGamesN). "I can’t say I didn’t expect this at some point. It’s their IP on a Nintendo console. I was hopeful I could get it to com...

Portal: Revolution isn't official, but it is an incredibly impressive-looking mod with an original story

by

Those that are craving a whole new Portal adventure will probably be interested in Portal: Revolution, a big new mod filled with new puzzles and original voice acting. We're probably not going to get another Portal game from Valve any time soon, but thanks to the series' modding community, there's basically an entire new entry you can play right now. And as it's a mod, it's completely free too! Set between the events of Portal and Portal 2, Portal: Revolution sees you as a new, unnamed test subject who's tasked by a personality sphere called Stirling to bring Aperture back to "its former glory." It's specifically a mod of Portal 2, meaning it has all of the sequel's mechanics like the paint that makes surfaces slippery or bouncy. According to the game's Steam description, "the campaign contains 40 brand new puzzles making use of new test elements and presents existing mechanics in a new way not seen in Portal 2." New elements include things like a laser cube variant, and a gel cleansin...
