New Skyrim mod gives its best side quest the expansion it deserves

by editor@pcgamesn.com

If Skyrim is great at anything, it's the incredible side stories. Between the Companions, College of Winterhold, and the war between the Stormcloaks and Imperials there's an entire world to get lost in, never mind Alduin's impending threat. Every time I revisit Skyrim my mind always goes back to the Dark Brotherhood, though, with the note of a handprint and the words "we know" one of the coolest mysteries in the entire game. Now, one of Skyrim's biggest modders has revamped the Dark Brotherhood, giving us all a reason to visit them again. Read the rest of the story... Skyrim mod adds a whole-new region one third the size of the base game

by editor@pcgamesn.com

I love a Skyrim mod that's basically a piece of DLC, giving us all more reasons to lose countless hours to the RPG. Just when you thought Starfield or Fallout 4's next gen update could bring you back to a different Bethesda game, the dedicated modding community has done it again. With a whole new region, hundreds of quests, NPCs, locations, and entirely new lore to get engrossed in, welcome to the region of Shumer. Read the rest of the story... New Skyrim mod makes a terrific change inspired by Cyberpunk 2077

For every 'TurboChadd's UltraPleasure 7.0,' there's a Skyrim mod actually worth downloading. The most popular creations are still texture overhauls and UI improvements all these years later, with players responding well to minor, unobtrusive, and quality-driven changes. That's why it's my mission to separate the wheat from the chaff; the useful from the inane. To that end, I've found yet another small but impactful Skyrim creation, and this one's inspired by the work of CD Projekt Red on The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077. Read the rest of the story... New Skyrim mod fixes the one thing it ruined from Oblivion

by editor@pcgamesn.com

Skyrim is a timeless RPG for good reason. The sense of exploration, the ability to freely level and build your character, and the endless supply of excellent mods all make for an experience that rightfully lives on over a decade later. Why do you think I keep writing about it after all these years? That said, the jump from Oblivion to Skyrim saw Bethesda change one feature for the worse, but this mod just changed it back while making it even better. Read the rest of the story... Insanely ambitious Elder Scrolls remake Skyblivion shows off another reason it's not releasing until 2025: refreshed dungeons with unique appearances for each region

by Ted Litchfield

Every time the volunteer team behind Skyblivion, a fan-made remake of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, comes out with a new dev update, I make the same mistake. I figure, "I know what they're all about, I've played Oblivion for a million hours, nothing here can surprise me." Well color me surprised, the team's latest development diary really got me going. Skyblivion is going to do things with Cyrodiil's Ayleid ruins and Skyrim's UI that have me giddy as a longtime Oblivion sicko... Read more.

Modder adds the one thing Skyrim has always been missing: Crippling psychological stress

by Joshua Wolens

Skyrim bills itself as a fantasy RPG: A sprawling adventure in which you treat with gods and write your name into myth and legend. But it's not that, really. For most of us, it's a life sim. A way to live out a new existence as some kind of itinerant lizardman. Sure, you probably still rack up a kill count in the thousands, but I think the majority of players like Skyrim because it provides a space to exist in and explore, rather than for the grandeur of its main plot... Ambitious Skyrim mod celebrates 22 years of Morrowind with new video

by editor@pcgamesn.com

Some mods aren't just ambitious, they're almost akin to making an entire game from scratch. Skywind, the huge upcoming Skyrim mod which will incorporate all of Morrowind, definitely fits that bill. In development for over a decade, the team behind the mod has just released a brand new video to celebrate 22 years of Morrowind, giving the first major update on the project for a while. Streamer lets viewers add custom voice lines to Skyrim NPCs, immediately realises their mistake: 'I formally apologise and regret my life choices'

by Harvey Randall

I has had a pretty controversial role across the gaming industry as of the past couple of years including—but certainly not limited to—designing NPCs. Recently, Ubisoft debuted uncanny AI-powered "neo NPCs", and to say I'm sceptical of the tech's actual uses is an understatement. Streamer Blurbs, however, has finally gotten me on board with at least one: letting his chat inject the most cursed custom voice lines into the denizens of Skyrim like a bunch of smutty skinwalkers... New Skyrim mod gives combat a major dynamic overhaul

by editor@pcgamesn.com

Almost 13 years since it launched, Skyrim is still a marvel, but the overall combat experience hasn't aged too well. Bethesda's latest single-player take on Tamriel has an astounding atmosphere, a sense of discovery, and a diverse skill-based leveling system that keeps me coming back, but fights can feel stale. This is where modders come in, and one of the best to ever do it has just added a dynamic storytelling system to the game's combat. Read the rest of the story... After spending $15k on their Skyrim VR setup, one streamer has added a haptic suit just to feel pain

by

A Skyrim VR streamer who spent $15,000 on a VR setup just for the Bethesda game has added a new element into the mix: actual pain. You ever feel like video games don't feel real enough to you? Sure, you can put on a headset and experience games in first-person thanks to VR tech, but you can't feel anything exactly. There's always putting on a haptic feedback suit, but even then, something's missing… The true way to experience a game is to feel the very pain your character is feeling, something that Skyrim VR and Fallout VR streamer Gingas has decided to put themselves through for the sake of entertainment (thanks, GamesRadar). GingasVR has already done a bit of work to make Skyrim VR a bit more of an immersive experience, which she put around $15,000 into, alongside some mods for things like physics and more accurate body movements via three Vive trackers. She also uses a fan to simulate wind and weather, and she does have a haptic vest to feel all sorts of things. Now, as she shared i...

Amid Fallout TV show fever, Nexus Mods says it's been dishing out as much data as downloading Skyrim "twice per second" would involve

by

While Fallout 4's next-gen update hasn't even dropped yet, Amazon's Fallout TV show has already been driving droves of players back to the series. Naturally, a lot these returning wastelanders have been grabbing mods to spice up their experiences - about two Skyrim's per second worth, actually. Yup, as they fill the void of not having a second season to immediately binge - though one is very much on the way - people have been busy downloading plenty of overhauls, weapons, and even Walton Goggins billboards. As outlined in a new post by community manager Demorphic, modding site Nexus Mods has basically been struggling to keep up with that demand for the past little bit. Read more

Bethesda would "probably say no" to an Elder Scrolls show or movie

by

With the Fallout live-action show now out and honestly far better than I was expecting, are Bethesda also brewing an adaptation of their other big RPG series, The Elder Scrolls? Not at present, according to Bethesda executive producer Todd Howard, and he says he'd "probably say no" if approached. Mind you, that was the stance he had until Fallout finally fell into place. Is an Elder Scrolls TV show going to follow Fallout? Bethesda doesn't seem to be in any rush

by

Amazon's Fallout TV Show is here now, but before it was, the show had a swanky Hollywood premiere that I'm sure my invite for got lost in the post. At that premiere, snazzily dressed Todd Howard said some things, and some of these things were about the potential idea of an Elder Scrolls adaptation. When it comes to such a thing, it sounds like Howard's plan is - simply put - to keep on being picky. Yup, picky, but in what should be a good way. After all, if someone's going to turn the Lusty Argonian Maid into the blockbuster hit of summer 2034, we need to make sure they understand what the political climate of Morrowind was like when Crassius Curio wrote the damn thing. Speaking to IGN on the red carpet, Howard was asked about the idea of other Bethesda IPs potentially getting the adaptation treatment, be that a TV show like Fallout or something else. "I don't know. There's nothing in the works," the BGS big cheese said. Read more

New Skyrim mod vastly improves the game's most underwhelming quest

by editor@pcgamesn.com

Every now and then I spot a Skyrim mod that longtime players need to know about. Sometimes it's the smallest changes to the fishing mechanic and other times we're looking at entirely new schools of magic. Today though, one of the most prolific modders in the scene has vastly improved one of vanilla Skyrim's most underwhelming quests. Why? Well, why not? Read the rest of the story... Well, the ESRB listing for it is now live, showing us the rating and some interesting details about some of the dodgy stuff in, uh, the base game.
