Valheim gets a fiery rebirth as Ashlands biome goes live with new siege weapons, bone spiders and boiling seas

by

Do you love the smell of napalm in the morning? If so, you'll probably love the smell of Valheim's Ashlands biome, which has just launched for all players after a period of beta testing. Sadly, my computer is incapable of producing smells beyond a faint reek of encrusted pasta sauce and regret, but if it did, I imagine I'd even now be basking in the aroma of burning bone and feather, because that is what the 10 new creatures you'll meet in the Ashlands consist of, broadly. Shout-out in particular for the monster that resembles a combusting sink clog with spider legs. Very Possum-esque. Read more

Valheim finally gets the long-awaited Ashlands update with new biomes, creatures, crafting materials, mechanics, and more

by

Iron Gate Studios has released the long-awaited Ashlands update for its Viking survival game, Valheim. It’s available now for PC, but unfortunately, there are currently issues with the Microsoft and Xbox versions of Valheim, so there will be a slight delay in getting the update for those; however, the current version on Xbox Flight is the same as the version coming to live, so crossplay will still be possible between Xbox Flight and default Steam games. That said, the Ashlands update is a feature-rich patch that comes with various fixes and improvements along with new mechanics, creatures, crafting materials, craftable items, build pieces and furniture, food and positions, new locations, events, lore, music, terrain changes, a new Forsaken power, and more. After laying off over 1000 people, Embracer Group makes itself some friends by splitting into three companies

by

Embracer Group is no more, as the company has made the decision to split into three separate entities, with various developers divided up amongst them. For the last year or so, it's not been a great time to be a part of Embracer Group. There have been almost 1400 staff laid off across various studios, and several closures too. Saber founder Matthew Karch doesn't think Embracer is evil, just a company "that everyone likes to pick on," despite the fact it spent ridiculous amounts of money on studios it couldn't ultimately afford leading to needless layoffs. But now, Embracer Group doesn't exist anymore, at least not as one company. The group announced earlier today that it is splitting into three companies: Asmodee Group, Coffee Stain & Friends, and Middle-earth Enterprises & Friends. The "& Friends" part of Middle-earth Enterprises includes a number of familiar names, like Tomb Raider and Marvel's Avengers dev Crystal Dynamics, Dead Island 2 dev Dambuster Studios, Deus Ex dev Eidos-Mont...

Development Blog: Decorative Details

by IronMontilyet

Hello vikings! March is nearing its end and we’re quite busy here at Iron Gate. Some of us were at GDC in San Francisco last week, and were even able to meet some of you! Unity had a booth where you could try out a bunch of games made with their engine and that included a Valheim setup – if you were there we hope you had a great time! Otherwise we’re currently spending most of our time ironing out a lot of wrinkles. Just like any biome, the Ashlands will feature several new mechanics, new materials, building pieces and enemies, and it’s important to get all of that working smoothly. Right now we’re solving as many bugs and issues as we can in order to give you the best experience possible! That being said, the Ashlands update really isn’t far away now, and in order to make sure you’re sufficiently prepared, we have put together this article for you, so that you know what to expect in terms of world generation, difficulty, and so on. But as always, onto the teasers! You might have notic...
